National Carnival Commission (NCC) chairman, Kenny de Silva said the Grand Stand at the Queen’s Park Savannah will be 30 percent bigger than the previous one with a seating capacity of 7,500 persons. However, the North Stand remains the same size with 10,000 patrons standing for pan semis, and 8,000 seated for other Carnival events.

“So there is substantially going to be more accommodation than before for Carnival 2011,” said de Silva.

Construction of the North and Grand Stands is very much on stream he stated and then promised to have a media tour for a hands-on view of how “fantastic” the stands are. “Wherever you sit you will have a full view of the stage, ”he said.

The NCC chairman said the sides of the Grand Stand will be curved to achieve that purpose. All the internal corporate boxes, booths fixtures and fittings are expected to be in place by Thursday.

De Silva said in an effort to have everybody on board for the Carnival, NCC will be inviting all mas bandleaders to La Boucan, Hilton on January 23 at 10 am to get an update of what is going on.

“It is important to have that intermingling of the bandleaders,” he said.
